AA Rosette-awarded country house hotel on 3 acres of private gardens

Dining

The hotel's AA Rosette-awarded restaurant serves multi-course dinners focused on local and seasonal produce. Guests have direct access from the restaurant to the gardens, where drinks and canapés are served on warm evenings. In colder months, log fires in the lounge and bar provide an alternative setting for meals and drinks.

Rooms

Each of the 12 en suite rooms is individually decorated with a distinct character, with some rooms offering private balconies overlooking the gardens. The hotel provides a communal fridge stocked with fresh milk and chilled water for in-room tea and coffee, replacing single-use portions. Several rooms feature spiral staircases leading to bathrooms on a separate level.

Grounds

The property sits on 3 acres of private gardens that include a vegetable plot, fruit trees, and numerous seating areas scattered among the trees. Resident peacocks, peahens, guinea fowl, and ducks roam the grounds freely. The gardens are directly accessible from the restaurant and offer spaces for outdoor dining or quiet relaxation.

Pet-Friendly

The hotel accommodates quiet, well-behaved dogs with an additional charge per night. Dogs are permitted in certain rooms and public areas, and the gardens provide ample space for walking. A common-use fridge allows guests to store pet supplies if needed.

Business & Events

Corporate events and business meetings can be held at the hotel with exclusive use of the venue and gardens, ensuring no interruptions from other guests. The hotel offers customized hosting facilities for private functions, including use of the dining room and lounge areas. The location near the M5 and within 8 km of Taunton and Ilminster makes it accessible for delegates arriving by car.

Many guests appreciate the spacious and beautifully decorated rooms, some even featuring unique details such as a spiral staircase to the bathroom, and the convenience of having coffee, tea, drinking chocolate, and a shared fridge with milk and chilled water available. Adequate stay

friendly staff beautiful building spacious room occupancy concession extra charge charging regime
The staff were friendly. The hotel building IS beautiful with wonderful grounds. The rooms are spacious and decorated beautifully.
The hotel did NOT offer a single occupancy concession on room rates. They added an extra charge per night for my dog. I wish i had a human to justify THIS charging regime.

adequate stay, some letdowns

impersonal service faulty electricals
the staff interaction was a bit off. the lady at reception barely acknowledged us, and the bar service felt impersonal. also, the radiator in the room never worked even after someone tried to fix it, so we relied on a portable heater. i found the electrical setup concerning as the plug and cable for the fan were hot and the extension socket was loose.

A Pleasant Hotel with Some Minor Issues

beautiful gardens friendly staff coffee facilities absent reception rushed service tea options
The gardens were beautiful. It was lovely to see peacocks. The staff were friendly and cute upon arrival. The room included tea and coffee making facilities. I appreciated this touch.
There was no one at reception when I arrived. Other guests were waiting too. I felt a bit rushed to dinner, I wanted more time to look at the menu. The tea and coffee options in the room were not great though the hotel could improve its service.
